Live music in RI/MA, exclusive industry interviews, and the stories behind the scenes
Morning Thoughts
Back to our regularly scheduled programming.
It’s been a particularly big week with lots of music and travel. I’m playing a ton of solo gigs this summer, so I will put the rest of that schedule below for anyone looking to have the best night of their life… well… At least a pretty darn good night.
As a guy that plays music for a living, I have to keep reminding myself that it’s good to be busy. It’s important to take breaks, but it has also been nice to look at a particularly full calendar this year. There was a time when it wasn’t full. We’re going in the right direction!
Here’s to a productive week where anything is possible! Cheers, and enjoy!
This Week’s Solo Shows in Rhode Island and Massachusetts
This list is long overdue but I have a BUNCH of solo acoustic performances left this summer. Don’t say you’ll make it to one. Just be cool and come to all of them, ok? Ok.

Eric Gross is the Artist relations manager at Zildjian and Vic Firth. He’s kind of a big deal. I went out to the Zildjian factory to have a chat, and he surprised me with an incredible day, trying out cymbals in their famous vault. This conversation with Eric was a blast. Make sure you’re subscribed to get it in your inbox when it comes out!

If you know After the Gig then you know Katie Musselman. Katie asks the best questions, and this convo was no different than the previous two. Don’t miss this one when it comes out!

Music Industry News: Matt Cameron announces departure from Pearl Jam
What a wild year for drummers, am I right?!? Matt Cameron, the 27 year veteran of the band Pearl Jam has decided to call it quits with the group.
One can only speculate, but maybe there are other opportunities he’d like to explore. It’s not like he’ll have a hard time finding a gig. Much like drummer Josh Freese, Cameron is a massive name in the music world. My only guess for his departure is the workload. 27 years is a long time to do that level of touring. Loooooooong tours. BIIIIIIIIIIGGGG tours. WOOOOORRRRLDD tours. It’s a big machine, and it’s been rolling a long time. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him play with some different, smaller acts to freshen things up.
That leaves us with the question… Who will take the throne as Pearl Jam’s new drummer?? Lots have speculated a reunion with their original drummer, Dave Krusen. Who knows if there is any weight to those rumors. A LOT of time has passed, and I'm sure plenty of drummers would love to take a swing at the gig. Only time will tell! If you’d like to read more about the departure of Matt Cameron from Pearl Jam, check out this article from Loudwire.
What are your thoughts about the departure of Matt Cameron, and all of these drummers for that matter!?!?
Those are my ramblings for today. I hope you have a wonderful week ahead!
Best,
Jesse
Thanks for the newsletter. I do know that Matt has played with Krist Novoselic in Krist’s band Third Secret. I am not going to speculate on why Matt left Pearl Jam. I will let him enjoy his retirement.
