Morning thoughts
Over the course of the year, the time on the road gets easier. When the warm weather sets in and more people fill the bustling streets surrounding venues across the country, audiences tend to have a new and fun energy. Finding my way out of the comfort of my bunk becomes easier and an early evening walk around town becomes something I look forward to each day.
New video series “Behind the Wheel” coming soon to Patreon
With the purchase of a GoPro, wireless lavalier microphones, and a suction cup, I have been able to shoot behind the scenes content that wasn’t possible for me to capture before. I will be debuting a new series called “Behind the Wheel” in which I capture conversations while i’m driving the “white whale” to gigs. The first 2 episodes feature Jon Markel and Terry Clark. Jon and I have an in depth conversation about bowel movements, and embarrassing meet and greet moments. Terry and I talk about his father’s military service, and what it was like growing up as a Navy brat. Two excellent and important conversations that I hope you all enjoy. You can become a supporter to see this content here.
Upcoming performances
May 9th: Jesse Solo Acoustic at Ward 4, Newton, MA
May 16th: The return of the “Over the Hump” with special guests (more on that later)
May 24th: Jesse Solo Acoustic at Joco’s, Waltham, MA
Music News
So Taylor Swift came out with a new alb….. wait, what? TWO new albums?! Say what you want about her, but Taylor Swift’s output of material is nothing short of remarkable. In a world of music marketing and the slow drip of singles, and the “death of the album” era, only a select few artists up in the stratosphere of fame can release a surprise double album.
I have read a couple of articles claiming that these albums have fallen flat and that Taylor has finally “lost it”, but admittedly, I haven’t listened. I can’t comment on these albums yet, but rest assured… I will, and there have been no shortage of Berklee classmates of mine hating on the music (and music in general), and making hour long youtube content analyzing her use of the 1, 6, 2, 5 chord progression, saying that she only does the bare minimum to be a good songwriter, and somehow has accidently stumbled her way into being the most successful songwriter of our generation, like it or not.
Merch Cuts
Lastly, the After the Gig facebook group sparked a fantastic conversation about concert venues taking a cut of artists merchandise at shows. Here is a great article about this, and I encourage you to educate yourself on these venue practices if you are someone that goes to a lot of shows
